Twitter Takes “Tweet” Trademark

Currently, Twittad owns the registered trademark of the word “tweet.”  Twittad is a company that “[p]rovides an opportunity for Twitter users to display advertisements on their user profiles.”  Twittad then sued Twitter for their use of the word “tweet.”

The lawsuit resulted in some aggressive action.  Twitter froze Twittad’s account on Twitter.  Recently, Twittad agreed to stop the lawsuit against Twitter.  Twittad also agreed to transfer its registered trademark of “tweet” to Twitter.

Twitter will restore Twittad’s account on Twitter.

It is unclear and unconfirmed whether there was a monetary amount attached to the settlement.

The Wall Street Journal wrote an interesting piece about the ordeal.  Read more about it here.
