As a new member of AALAM, which is the acronym for Asian American Lawyers Association of Massachusetts, I attended my first event tonight! In law school, I was an active member of APALSA, the Asian Pacific American Law Student Association. I really loved being a member of APALSA because of the friendships and fun events. I was hoping that AALAM would be the lawyer version of APALSA. I am happy to say it is!
The AALAM Kick Off Event was hosted at Bingham McCutchen LLP. The surprise guest speaker was Justice Fernande R.V. Duffly! Justice Duffly was recently appointed to the Supreme Judicial Court (SJC) by Governor Deval Patrick. Prior to the SJC, she was with the Massachusetts Appeals Court. She gave a truly inspiring speech about her background, her experiences growing up, and about what it is like to be on the SJC thus far.
